The Courant reported that five more building lots on the old town farm property had been sold along with the old hospital building, and it also reported on new improvements that were being made to the remaining old town farm property.

Real estate transactions

A. H. Merrill had purchased four building lots, on Huntington and Sigourney streets, and the old hospital building.
Charles H. Garvin had purchased one building lot on Ashley Street.
Negotiations to sell “a number of additional lots” was underway.

Improvements

Work on grading Sigourney Street from Ashley Street to Sargeant Street continued.
Work on a new street, west of the park between Ashley Street and Sargeant Street, was being planned.
Several houses were now under construction.

And then there's this

The sale of the old hospital building came with the requirement that it not be used as a residence.

Why this is important

Work on Sigourney Street north of Ashley Street indicates that some of the buildings of the almshouse have been demolished.
This is the earliest mention of May Street that I’ve so far found.

It appears at this point that the “park” still doesn’t have a name.

The past recalled

On December 10, 1888, the Board of Aldermen and the Board of Councilmen met and took action on several items related to the old town farm property.

The future foretold

The Courant will publish an update on the sale of the old town farm property on February 3, 1892.
