Meetings of the Board of Aldermen and Board of Councilmen

The Hartford Board of Aldermen and Councilmen met this evening.

The Board of Aldermen considered the following matters related to the old town farm:

They received and referred a petition from H. M. Pope to build a frame dwelling on Ashley Street; and
They ordered that electric lights be installed on Woodland Street, near Collins Street.

The Board of Councilmen considered the following matters related to the old town farm:

They received and referred a petition from E. M. Hicks to build a house and barn on Huntington Street, at the corner of Ashley Street;
They received and referred a petition from A. M. Hurlbut to build a brick cottage on Collins Street; and
They received a favorable report on accepting Sigourney Stret from Collins Street north to Ashley Street.

The actions taken at the two meetings tonight serve as a progress report on the effort to develop the property as housing.

The house being built by A. M. Hurlbut was very likely on a building lot on the old town farm, as he built five houses on old town farm building lots on Collins Street.
Strictly speaking, the electric lights on Woodland Street were not part of old town farm property, and the relationship of this action to the old town farm property is obscured because there is no indication at this point in the process as to who might have petitioned the Board of Aldermen for these lights.

On July 25, 1888, the Board of Selectmen gave a tour of the facilities at the new town farm on Vine Street.

On May 10, 1890, the Courant will publish an update on real estate transactions and improvements at the old town farm property.

The house that H. M. Pope wanted to build will be 59 Ashley Street.
