New Chapel at Asylum Hill Congregational Church Gets a Name

The anniversary committee held a meeting tonight in the parish house.

  1. David McKeith, Jr. announced that Helen Clarissa Gross Chandler and Charles Welles Gross had given the new chapel as a memorial to their parents, Charles Gross and Ellen Clarissa Spencer Gross.
  2. McKeith also announced that $100,000 had already been pledged for the anniversary building fund
  3. He added that the anniversary fund still needed $25,000 in order to be able to finish the project.

The fundraising campaign was announced on April 18, 1939.

The church would apply for a permit for construction on June 11, 1939.

  1. Charles Welles Gross was chair of the building committee.
  2. His sister was reported as Mrs. Woods Chandler.
