The Courant reported that Asylum Hill Congregational Church would undertake a building expansion that would add a two-story addition at the rear of the parish house and a new chapel at the front.

  1. The project was timed to coincide with the church’s 75th anniversary.
  2. The building committee previously announced a campaign to raise $125,000
  3. Pledges of $100,000 were needed by May 15 in order to allow the church to engage contractors to start construction in time to complete the addition by March 1940, which would be the 75th anniversary of the church.
  4. Charles Collens would be the architect for the project

The church opened its parish house on February 12, 1904.

The proposed chapel would be named on May 2, 1939.

Charles Collens had acted as the church’s architect since 1912.

Charles W. Gross served as chair of the building committee.
