Constructed around the mid-19th c. on land that was part of the campus of the American School for the Deaf; remained in use until the early 20th c., at which point it was sold to the Hartford Fire Insurance Company

The reservoir ran parallel to Garden Street, and it stretched from the middle of Cogswell Street, across Lot 4 of The Hartford, which is the visitors lot accessible from Cogswell Street, to about midway across Lot 3 of The Hartford, which is the employee lot accessible from Garden Street.
