The evolving design of the church

Efforts to plan for the new church building began as earnest as the general committee empowered a building committee to confer with the architects, Ebbets & Frid. Although changes were anticipated – and that the building would appear substantially different when completed – the plan for the new church would make use of the present building β€œto a considerable extent.”

Encouraged by low construction costs, the building committee was in favor of making some improvements to the building, including to the front exterior and to the interior of auditorium.

April 6, 1931

The building committee recommended moving forward with rebuilding the church with the following changes: the old tower not be rebuilt; a new chancel be built; a three manual organ be purchased and installed; and a new vapor heating system with an oil heater be installed to heat the auditorium and vestry. Additionally, a new chimney would be built, and equipment that had been damaged by the fire would be replaced.
