A call to investigate John Voorhees's death

The Courant published an article calling for an investigation into the death of John Voorhees.

The anonymous writer claimed that

  • Voorhees had been taken to Brest for further surgery.
  • Voorhees had been left for four weeks in Brest before he was shipped home for further treatment, and that delay contributed to his death.
  • Upon arrival in New York, he was left on board the La France for several days because he was a YMCA man who didn’t belong with army patients.

Also, based on reporting in the Courant, Voorhees didn’t spend more than a day on the La France.  He arrived on December 24, 1918, and he was transferred to New York Hospital on December 25, 1918.

John Voorhees died on January 8, 1919.

A letter to the editor agreeing with this article will be published in tomorrow’s Courant.

“Similar neglect may be suffered by others and the case should have careful inspection.”

Although it is unclear what type of article this is, tomorrow’s letter to the editor will recognize it as an editorial.
