Memorial Service for Howard Arnold Walter

A memorial service was held in honor of Howard Arnold Walter at the chapel of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church this evening.

  1. Tributes were read by a number of people:
    • Helen C. Gross read three appreciations of Walter: one of her own, one from a Princeton classmate, and one from an intimate friend
    • Duncan McDonald spoke of Walter as a student
    • Guy Beardsley paid tribute as a friend
    • John W. Wetzel spoke of Walter as a poet
  2. There was a special musical program and singing.
  3. Walter’s father attended the service.
    • A collection of the tributes was given to him, to forward to Walter’s wife in India

  1. Helen Gross was Charles E. Gross’s daughter.
  2. Duncan McDonald, also MacDonald or Macdonald, taught Walter in preparation for his mission in India.
  3. John Wetzel was the assistant pastor at the church.
  4. Walter was buried in Lahore.

A proposal to memorialize Walter was heard at the annual meeting of the Asylum Hill Congregational Society on February 6, 1919.
