Meeting of the directors of the Municipal Art Society

The directors of the Municipal Art Society held a meeting, at which Charles Noel Flagg announced that Elise Mitchell Davis had offered up to $1,000 in order to repair the stairway in the main hall of the “Bulfinch Statehouse.”

  1. Flagg made his announcement in his capacity as chair of the committee on civic centers and public buildings.
  2. The funds were restricted to use on the repair of the staircase, and they would be made available as soon as the interior restoration of the statehouse was underway.
  3. The directors gratefully accepted Davis’s offer.

  1. Dotha Bushnell Hillyer presented a report on a recent municipal exhibit and noted that attendance exceeded expectations.
  2. The membership committee reported that it had received 26 applications for annual membership and one application for life membership.

  1. Elise Mitchell Davis’s contribution would be $33,189.58 today
  2. The “Bulfinch Statehouse” is known today as the Old State House.
  3. Dotha Bushnell Hillyer was the daughter of Horace Bushnell.

  1. Elise Mitchell Davis was identified as Mrs. G. Pierrepont Davis.
  2. Dotha Bushnell Hillyer was identified as Mrs. Appleton R. Hillyer.
