Elise Mitchell Davis hosted a reception at her home, 30 Woodland Street, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

  1. Davis was assisted in receiving guests by Elizabeth Davis Schreiber and Helen Davis.
  2. Elinor Cooke Robinson, Sarah Goodwin Robinson, Mary Vaill Talcott, and Belle Watrous Marvin presided at the tables in the dining room.
  3. Cecilia Kimball, Dietta Mitchell, May Whaples, and Daisy Strong oversaw the frappe table.
  4. Elsa Saint John, Elizabeth Cutler, Marie Brooke, Nanna Sturgess, and Gene Dimmick oversaw the punch bowl.

  1. The halls, reception room, and library were decorated with roses and chrysanthemums.
  2. The dining room was decorated more elaborately:
  • There were mums and “masses of red roses” that “overflowed the mantels and tables”.
  • The candles and lights here were covered with dark red shades, “which made the color effect in the room”.
  1. Music was provided by Emmons’s Orchestra.

Although the article identifies only Helen Davis as Elise Mitchell Davis’s daughter, Elizabeth Davis Schreiber was also her daughter.

There were two other receptions today:

  • Grace Geer Shepard hosted a reception for friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at her home, 695 Prospect Avenue.
  • Alice Graves Tallman hosted a reception in honor of her daughters from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at her home, 25 Niles Street.

“A large number of invitations were issued and the house was thronged with friends."

At this party, a frappe or frappé was an iced drink, either made from frozen fruit juice and served as a dessert or made from a liqueur poured over cracked or shave ice and served as an after-dinner drink.

The married women were all identified by their husbands’ names in the article:

  • Elise Mitchell Davis was Mrs. G. Pierrepont Davis.
  • Elizabeth Davis Schreiber was Mrs. Otto Schreiber.
  • Elinor Cooke Robinson was Mrs. Lucius F. Robinson.
  • Sarah Goodwin Robinson was Mrs. Henry S. Robinson.
  • Mary Vaill Talcott was Mrs. Charles H. Talcott.
  • Belle Watrous Marvin was Mrs. L. P. Waldo Marvin.
