According to a report in the Courant today, A. Sherwood Healy had been designated to succeed Francis McFarland as Bishop of Hartford.

Thomas Galberry had declined the appointment.

The Courant cited an article published in the Hartford Times, but it didn’t provide any details about Galberry’s refusal to accept the appointment.

On February 17, 1875, the Courant published a report that Thomas Galberry had been appointed Bishop of Hartford.

Thomas Galberry will be consecrated Bishop of Hartford on March 19, 1876.

“Some still believe that it will yet be made impossible for the Rev. Father Galberry to refuse.”

A. Sherwood Healy’s brother was James A. Healy, who had recently become the Bishop of Portland (ME).
