According to the Courant, Thomas Galberry had been designated to succeed Francis McFarland as Bishop of Hartford.

The Courant did not know when Galberry would be consecrated as bishop, but it anticipated that Galberry would be consecrated “before Easter and at St. Peter’s church in this city.”

The source for this article was a “cable telegram to the Freeman’s Journal, published in New York”.  There is no indication of when Galberry had been designated as Bishop of Hartford.

Francis McFarland died on October 12, 1874.

  1. The Courant will report on May 15, 1875 that A. Sherwood Healy had been appointed Bishop of Hartford.
  2. Thomas Galberry will be consecrated bishop on March 19, 1876.

“The fact that his appointment was recommended by such illustrious men as compose the episcopacy of this province, is sufficient proof of his intellectual ability and personal worth to fill the chair so ably filled by the deceased Bishop McFarland.”
