Dedication services were held in the chapel.

  1. Horace Bushnell preached the sermon.
  2. The Asylum Hill Sunday School met in the chapel afterwards.
  3. Several people connected with the Sunday school gave addresses.
  4. One of those speakers, Nelson Kingsbury, announced that he would give $500 toward a library for the school.

The chapel was finished by March 4, 1865.

The Asylum Hill Congregational Church was formally organized on March 23, 1865.

At the 1860 annual meeting of the City Missionary Society, David Hawley, speaking as the superintendent of the Albany Avenue Sunday School, thanked Nelson Kingsbury for providing the school with the use of Hope Chapel to the Sunday school.

Nelson Kingsbury’s contribution is the equivalent of $9,714.49 in 2024.
