Details about the exterior

Dimensions: 118 feet long by 75 feet wide, 80 feet from ground to top of cupola spire; cruciform in shape, Gothic in style.

Foundation wall, hammered Portland brownstone; exterior walls, Hartford pressed brick laid in dark cement; window sills and lintels, cut Ohio stone; door frame, cut Ohio stone; belt cornice, cut Ohio stone; roof, dark Bangor slate relieved by bands of light red and purple; roof ridges surmounted by gilded iron cresting terminating in ornamental finials at the different gables; cupola spire, slated and crowned by decorated gilt finial 10 feet in height; ornamented gables that filled by tracery that projected outward over stained-glass windows at southeast and west ends of building.

Principal entrance to church through porch off of Asylum Avenue: porch arches, supported by shafts of polished Quincy granite with richly carved capital and molded bases; secondary entrance to church through porch off of Sigourney Street, led to auditorium or Sunday school room.
