Police arrested three men in connection with the attempted theft of one CB radio from a car parked at 250 Constitution Plaza.

  1. An unidentified man from East Hartford chased the three men from 250 Constitution Plaza.
  2. An unidentified police officer joined the chase and followed the three men into the G. Fox & Co. store.
  3. A store security officer apprehended the three men.
  4. The three men were identified as
  • Edward Hawkins
  • Charles Newell
  • Ricky Woodard

According to police, two of the three individuals arrested today were wearing jewelry that appeared to be part of $8,000 in jewelry reported as stolen from a car parked at the G. Fox & Co. parking garage on March 26, 1976.

The article gives Edward Hawkins’s address as 102 Huntington Street.

  1. The crime reported here differs from the crime for which these three will be sentenced in the following ways:
  • As of this article, they were alleged to have stolen two CB radios in the “Constitution Plaza area” – at their sentencing, they were accused of having attempted to steal one CB radio from a car parked at 250 Constitution Plaza.
  • For this entry, I’ve opted for the more definitive article published on April 14, 1976.
  1. The article does not make clear who the two men wearing the possibly stolen jewelry were, but the implication is that it was Newell and Woodard, because they were identified in a separate paragraph before Hawkins was identified.
  • Their identities were confirmed when they were sentenced on April 13, 1976.

Edward “Eddie" Hawkins was arrested on charges of robbery and assault on February 1, 1974.

  1. William S. Ewing continued the three cases until April 13, 1976.
  2. The three men will be sentenced to 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to charges of attempted third-degree larceny.

“Investigators said that two of the men were waring jewelry that fit the description of part of the $8,000 in jewels reported stolen last Friday by a woman who left them inside a borrowed car.”

William S. Ewing was judge in Common Pleas Court 14.
