Drug arrests made on Marshall Street

Hartford narcotics squad detectives apprehended five men in a car in front of 4 Marshall Street at 7:30 PM. 

  1. Richard Bowen, John Calloway, and Joseph Shaw arrested George Christmat Jr., Richard T. Butenas, Daniel J. Lamothe, Robert Manon, and Edward Griskus on various drug charges following a lengthy investigation.
  2. The detectives confiscated an estimated $3,000 in hashish, marijuana, and controlled drugs, which included LSD, amphetamines, and barbiturates.
  3. Two of the five men voluntarily turned over most of the evidence.

  1. Bail for Christmat, Butenas, and Lamothe was set at $20,000 each.
  2. Bail for Manlon and Griskus was set at $1,000 each.

George Christmat Jr.’s place of residence was given as 102 Huntington Street.

Christmat, Butenas, and Lamothe were all held pending their appearance in court.  It isn’t clear if Manlon and Griscus were also held or were released on bail.

Christmat, Butenas, Lamothe, Manlon, and Griskus were all scheduled to appear in Circuit Court 14 on the morning of March 5, 1970.

The article misspelled both “amphetemines” and “barbituates.”
