Samuel P. Avery died

Samuel P. Avery died at 2:00 PM at his home at 61 Woodland Street.

  1. Avery had been in poor health since the first week of June.
  2. Avery traveled to his summer home on Lake Champlain in July.
  3. Two days later, he took ill, and his health declined steadily.
  4. About five weeks ago, he returned to Hartford, after which his health continued to deteriorate.

At the time of his death, Avery’s brother-in-law and his three daughters (Avery’s nieces) lived with him.  They were:

  • Manfred Welcher
  • Emma Parke Avery Welcher
  • Alice Lee Welcher
  • Amy Ogden Welcher

Avery’s sister, Fanny Avery Welcher, had also lived with them.  She died in 1918.
