Charles E. Perkins died at his home at 49 Woodland Street around 8:30 PM.

The immediate cause of death was pneumonia.

Perkins contracted pneumonia on January 5, 1917.

It appears the Courant reporter visited the lawyers who eulogized Perkins for the article:  “Hartford lawyers last night, when informed of the death of Charles E. Perkins, expressed grief at the loss of so eminent a member of the bar.”

  • Charles E. Gross noted that he “cannot, at this late hour properly formulate what my heart feels.”
  • Lucius F. Robinson spoke on behalf of the Monday Evening Club, which was meeting at Robinson’s house when “news was received of Mr. Perkins’s death.”

“He underwent a serious surgical operation about six years ago and, although he has not been vigorous since, was able to be at this office until last February, since which time he has been practically confined to his home.”

Unattributed.  “C. E. Perkins dead, prominent lawyer for half century,” Hartford Courant, January 9, 1917, page 1.
