An inventory of Elise Mitchell Davis’s estate was recorded at probate court.  The estate was valued at $935,063.60.

  1. The Courant noted that the two largest parts of Davis’s estate were her shares of stock in the Winchester Repeating Arms Company (150 shares worth $337,500) and in Travelers Insurance Company (82 shares worth $67,240).
  2. Her house at 30 Woodland Street was valued at $42,500.
  3. She also owned more than one automobile, and these were valued at $4,150.
  4. The contents of her house – furniture, jewelry, and personal effects – were valued at $4,000.

The appraisers of Davis’s estate were Harry S. Conklin and Arthur G. Wooley.

The inventory doesn’t list how many automobiles Davis owned – the only indication that there was more than one is that the word “automobile” is plural in the inventory.

The Courant reported that inventories for 15 other estates were also recorded today.

Of the inventories of the other estates listed, the next largest after Davis’s belonged to Eunice E. S. Richmond.  Her estate was valued at $42,585.97, which is roughly 5% of the value of Davis’s estate.

Davis’s estate would be worth $27,048,301.66 today.

Unattributed.  “Mrs. G. P. Davis’s estate valued at nearly a million,” Hartford Courant, May 4, 1916, page 11.
