At a special meeting held today, the executive committee of the Connecticut Humane Society passed a resolution honoring G. Pierrepont Davis.

The resolution noted that the members of the executive committee expressed:

  • their high estimation of his character;
  • their appreciation of his friendship;
  • their deep sense of personal loss at his death; and
  • their grateful recognition of his many years of service.

Davis had “long been” the senior member of the executive committee at the time of his death.

G. Pierrepont Davis died on April 1, 1914.

According to the resolution, Davis had served on the committee that had formed the Connecticut Humane Society in 1880 and had served as one of the society’s original incorporators in 1881.

  1. “The interest and assistance of Dr. Davis in these various relations was most helpful.”
  2. “His friendship for dump animals made him a strong advocate of their right to protection, and his large hearted and generous nature brought him into sympathy with abused or neglected children.”

The article referred to Davis as “G. Pierpont,” but then went on to quote the resolution as referring to him as “G. Pierrepont.”

Unattributed.  “Dr. G. P. Davis,” Hartford Courant, April 19, 1914, page 4.
