Alice Graves Tallman gave a reception in honor of her daughters, Alice Parker Tallman and Marion Graves Tallman, at her home at 25 Niles Street.

  1. Tallman was assisted in the receiving line by Grace Tallman Burr, Mary Brewster Brainard, Elizabeth Tremaine Field, and Carlotta Korn Smith.
  2. Mrs. A. M. Williams oversaw the library.
  3. Katherine Northam, Marguerita Persse, and Anna Dunning oversaw the frappe table.
  4. Helen Lyman Johnson and Cornelia Schermerhorn Royce oversaw the dining room, and they were assisted by Mary Gray, Elsie Burdick, Florence Smith, and Mary Hovey.

The rooms were decorated with chrysanthemums, violets, roses, and southern smilax.

The reception was given in honor of “Miss Tallman and Miss Marion G. Tallman”.  Alice Tallman had three daughters, Grace, Alice, and Marion, and the only daughter not identified by name was Alice.  Grace was married at this point and so not one of the honorees.

Alice Graves Tallman hosted a reception in honor of her daughters yesterday.

There were two other receptions today:

  • Grace Geer Shepard hosted a reception for friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at her home, 695 Prospect Avenue.
  • Elsie Mitchell Davis hosted a reception from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at her home, 30 Woodland Street.

Mary Brewster Brainard was the future mother-in-law of Alice Parker Tallman

“If it were possible a larger number were present yesterday than the day before.”

At this party, a frappe or frappé was an iced drink, either made from frozen fruit juice and served as a dessert or made from a liqueur poured over cracked or shave ice and served as an after-dinner drink.
