The Charter Oak Council of the Knights of Columbus held a regular meeting.

  1. The council appointed Thomas Preston, E. J. Mulcahy, Patrick Duane, and Joseph E. O’Neil to a committee that would confer with James Hughes on funeral arrangements for Lawrence McMahon.
  2. The council authorized the committee to offer to station a guard of honor with the body of McMahon while it lay in state.
  3. The council voted to hold a special meeting with the Green Cross Council and the Jewel Council tomorrow at 8:00 PM in order to discuss attending the funeral as a single group.

Unlike previous funerals for bishops, no societies or fraternal orders other than the Knights were mentioned as being involved with the planning of McMahon’s funeral.

Lawrence McMahon died on August 21, 1893.

  1. Lawrence McMahon’s body will be brought back to Hartford tomorrow.
  2. The Knights will provide an honor guard while Lawrence McMahon’s body lay in state at the Cathedral on August 23, 1893.
  3. McMahon’s funeral will be held on August 24, 1893.

The Knights of Columbus were established in 1882, four years after McMahon’s predecessor, Thomas Galberry, died.
