Celebration of the Feast of Saint Lawrence and the anniversary of Lawrence McMahon’s elevation to bishop

The feast of Saint Lawrence was celebrated at a morning mass at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, and it was followed by an anniversary dinner at the convent rectory in honor of the 15th anniversary of Lawrence McMahon becoming Bishop of Hartford.

  1. The mass was celebrated by Father Leo of Winstead.
  • The deacon was M. McKeon of New Haven
  • The sub-deacon was R. Moore of South Meriden
  • Andrew Harty served as master of ceremonies
  • T. W. Broderick of Hartford and J. Russell of New Haven were the bishop’s chaplains.
  • Professor Hughes directed the cathedral choir.
  1. Lawrence McMahon hosted the dinner at noon.
  • Father Leo of Winsted gave the first speech, and he was followed by Father McCarty, a Jesuit from New York; Father De Bruycker of Willimantic; Father Tierney of New Britain; and Father Slocum of Norwalk.
  • McMahon gave a speech in reply.

According to the Courant, over 100 people attended the anniversary dinner, and the article listed 134 priests who were in attendance.

Lawrence McMahon will die on August 21, 1893.
