The Courant reported that new interior decorations that had been underway since July were nearing completion.

  1. The article reported that the scaffolding inside the church would start to come down today.
  2. The only outstanding work that remained to be done was some painting of the organ.
  3. Barring any unforeseen incidents, the church would re-open for services in two weeks.

A previous Courant reporter appreciated the black walnut at the church’s dedication.

The interior decorations would be finished on September 20, 1895.

  1. “The plan originally chosen from ten or a dozen submitted was found after a more careful consideration rather to giddy in design for the requirements of this particular interior and the committee decided to place the matter in the hands of Mr. Gurdon Trumbull of this city, a gentleman of great taste and high artistic ability, who pitched upon a more quiet scheme of color and less complicated decoration, and he has remained in town to personally superintend the work since its beginning in the first of last July.”
  2. “Those in the habit of attending the church need not be reminded of the sepulchral tone of former days and the incongruous display of black walnut in the apse.”
