According to the Courant, the top three designs for the soldiers’ monument had been selected.
J. Cleveland Cady served as “a disinterested person to decide on the merits of the designs submitted to the committee.”
Cady selected designs as follows:
The soldiers’ monument committee accepted Cady’s selections.
“Mr. Luce is one of the leading architects of Boston, and many of the sightly structures at Newport were built from his plans. The beautiful Holyoke opera house was also designed by him.”
