George Affleck’s will was admitted to probate today.

  1. Affleck’s will contained multiple provisions:
  • Identifiable bequests totaling $51,200
  • Assignment of the furniture in his house (which went to his niece, Jane Bogue)
  • Settlement of all claims and expenses for which he was liable
  • Any “residue,” which was divided among six heirs, each of whom was assigned a certain number of shares (Jane Bogue receiving the most).
  1. His public bequests totaled $15,000:
  • Establishment of a trust for “the suffering poor of Hartford,” to be administered by John Williams
  • Hartford Hospital
  • Hartford Orphan Asylum
  • Larrabee Fund
  1. His private bequests totaled $36,200 and were divided mostly among his family.

Affleck’s will excluded his brother Henry.

  1. The identified bequests of George Affleck would be $1,501,716 in 2023.
  2. John Williams was the Episcopalian Bishop of Connecticut in 1880. In 1887, he would become the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States.
  3. The Larrabee Fund, now the Larrabee Fund Association of Greater Hartford, was established in 1863 by Charles Larrabee to help women with health issues.
