The Month’s Mind service in commemoration of Thomas Galberry was held at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph.

  1. The same mourning decorations – the drapings, catafalque, and coffin – that had been at the funeral were in place for this service.
  2. Edgar Wadhams celebrated the mass, and Jeremiah Shanahan gave the sermon. Patrick Lynch also took part in the mass.
  3. At the end of the mass, John McCloskey “administered the absolution of the soul of the late Bishop McFarland.”

  1. According to the Courant, “[n]early a hundred priests officiated.”
  2. John McCloskey sat on a throne to the right of Thomas Galberry’s vacant seat.
  3. John Williams had been expected to attend, but he’d sent word by yesterday that he would be “unavoidably detained in Boston.”

  1. Edgar P. Wadhams appeared in this article as “Edgar P. Waddams” and as “Bishop Wadhams.”
  2. “Cardinal McClosky” was John McCloskey.
  3. “Bishop Shaunagan” and “Bishop Shannahan” were Jeremiah Shanahan.
  4. Although the article reported that McCloskey absolved Thomas McFarland’s soul, this mass was said for the “repose of the soul of the late Bishop Galberry”.

The funeral of Thomas Galberry was held on October 15, 1878.

The Courant noted that John McCloksey was a “conspicuous figure in the ceremonies,” but he appears to have had no roll beyond administering the absolution of Francis McFarland.
