Thomas Galberry blessed the bell at the new Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Norwich, CT.

The ceremony began at 5:00 PM.

Yesterday evening, Saint Mary’s Catholic Parish held a reception for Thomas Galberry and Thomas Walsh.

“Last evening the members of St. Mary’s parish tendered Bishop Galberry and Father Walsh a reception at the parsonage, and were addressed by the bishop.”

The use of “tender” is one I haven’t seen before, but it appears to be a broader use of the sense of “tender” that means “offer,” as in “tendering a resignation.”  It could also be the archaic sense of “tender,” which is “to regard or treat tenderly.”

Unattributed.  “Catholic ceremony in Norwich,” Hartford Daily Courant, July 15, 1878, page 3.
