Asylum Hill Congregational Church Spire Nears Completion

Shortly before 11:00 AM, workers put the last stone of the new spire into place.

  1. The national colors were flown above the steeple.
  2. The bell was rung in honor of the event.
  3. A lightning rod will be affixed to the spire.
  4. Some finish work would be done on the face of the spire, as the staging is taking down.
  5. The staging is expected to be fully removed in about three weeks.

  1. The Asylum Hill Congregational Society accepted the funds to construct the spire on February 10, 1875.
  2. A neighbor complained about the bell on June 12, 1875.

The staging would be removed from the steeple on August 25, 1875.
