Update on Construction at Trinity Episcopal Church

The Courant reported that the organ was currently being installed at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Consequently, the sale of pews was postponed.

This is the last mention I’ve found that pews would be sold at Trinity Episcopal Church.

  1. The two articles offer slightly different dates for the new date for the sale of seats at the church. First, it should be noted that April 10, 1861 was a Wednesday.  The article “City Intelligence” reported that the “sale of slips in Trinity Church has been postponed until Saturday afternoon,” which I would read as “this” Saturday, or April 13, 1861.  The other article, which gave the installation of the organ as the reason for the postponement of the sale, said that “the sale of pews … will be postponed until Saturday next,” which to my modern sense would be April 20, 1861.
  2. It is, so far, unclear if the sale ever proceeded.

The Courant reported that work on the church had been completed on March 30, 1861, and that pews would go on sale today, April 10, 1861.

The church would still not be ready on April 20, 1861.
