The Plimpton Household included six people: Linus Plimpton, Clarissa Hibbard, Julia Plimpton, Mary Plimpton, Grace Plimpton, and Arthur Bradley. Additionally, there were live-in servants, although it is unclear how many and during what periods of time. Linus Plimpton hired John C. Mead to construct substantial additions to the house ca. 1884-1885, and these additions likely included the octagonal tower on the north (front) side of the house, the square tower on the east side of the house, and the third story in whole or in part. This addition also likely included the stained-glass windows in the house as well as much of the decorative stenciling inside.
Linus Plimpton is the namesake for the "Linus Plimpton House" as the house appears on the state historic register and some websites specializing in historic homes in Hartford. |
