1. William Buckingham was governor of Connecticut during the Civil War. He declared April 25, 1864 to be a statewide day of “public Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer.”
2. Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865.
3. The national fast was postponed until June 1.
4. Henry Ward Beecher gave his address at Fort Sumter on April 14, 1865. He was also Calvin Stowe’s brother-in-law.
