The Courant reported that the cornerstone was laid on May 2, 1865 in an article published on May 3, 1865. Two future church historians, however, put the date as May 5, 1865: F. Irvin Davis (1908) and Melva Swartz (1940). Atwood Collins (1915) said that it took place in May 1865 but doesn’t give a specific date. I tend toward the Courant on this one.
