Julia Turner placed an order for a clock for the Asylum Hill Congregational Church with the Seth Thomas Clock Company, Thomaston, CT. Turner bought the clock in memory of her father, Roland Mather, who had died in May 1897. Mather donated the funds to build the steeple in 1875.
