Some disputes in the record

There are five separate descriptions of the dimensions and the seating capacity of the church: 1. The dimensions of the structure, 142’ x 86.4’, comes from an article published in the Hartford Daily Courant on September 26, 1864, and is based on the reporter’s access to Patrick Keely’s plans; the figure for the length of the church is based on the total length of the church and chapel (184’) less the length of the chapel (42’). 2. The dimensions of the audience room as 85’ x 65’ and the seating capacity of over 900 come from an article published in the Hartford Daily Courant on June 16, 1866, on the occasion of the church’s dedication. 3. The dimensions of the audience room as 96’ x 60’ come from the same September 26, 1864 article in the Hartford Daily Courant. 4. The dimensions of the audience room as 111’ x 66’ and the seating capacity of over 800 come from an article published in the Hartford Daily Courant on April 3, 1865, which was during construction of the church. 5. The dimensions of the audience room as 112’ x 68’ comes from a March 1, 1908 lecture by F. Irvin Davis at the Men’s Club of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church and from an article published in the Hartford Courant in the run-up to the church’s fiftieth anniversary celebration.
