Constructed 1865-1866 by Brown & Valentine (under the supervision of Samuel Coit); dedicated March 1866; bell installed, June 1871; steeple completed, 1875; interior refurbished 1890; clock installed, 1897; organ installed; interior refurbished, 1985.

Additional details: built of Portland free stone; connected to chapel at rear of building; dimensions reported as 142’ x 86’ 4”; audience room or sanctuary reported as 85, 96, 111, or 112’ x 60, 65, 66, or 68’; 186 pews; no wall seats; seating capacity of 800, 900, or 930; interior decorations: windows made of colored glass; pews made of chestnut, finished with black walnut trimmings, and numbered on doors; artificially lit by gas jest that project just over the pillars in the nave; carpet covered entire floor; no side galleries.
