David Bartlett returned to Hartford to teach at the American School for the Deaf. He had been overseeing a school for the deaf in Poughkeepsie, NY.

According to various AHCC sources, Wolcott Calkins called on David Bartlett and Fanny Bartlett at their home on Asylum Avenue. At this point in time, the Bartletts were members of Center Church, and they discussed with Calkins the difficulties inherent in traveling to Center Church from their home.

1861

The first prayer meeting was held at the Bartletts’ home; subsequent prayer meetings were held at various homes on Asylum Hill.

August 7, 1862

The Center Church called Wolcott Calkins to serve as its associate pastor. At this point of time, Calkins was a minister in New Haven.

September 2, 1862

Wolcott Calkins accepted the call from the Center Church.

October 22, 1862
