Four youths were arraigned on robbery Charges

Four youths were arraigned on several robbery charges in Circuit Court 14 and a fifth was referred to Juvenile Court.

  1. The four youths arraigned were:
  • James Burgess
  • Eddie Hawkins
  • Leroy Holloway
  • Mitchell Raines
  1. The charges on which they were arraigned:
  • 6/2/1973: Raines and Burgess allegedly stabbed and robbed Robert Ward outside of 690 Albany Avenue.
  • 1/24/1974: Raines, Holloway, and Hawkins allegedly robbed Allan Rifkin at gunpoint and assaulting him in the vicinity of 37 Cabot Street.
  • 1/25/1974: Raines, Holloway, Hawkins, and Burgess allegedly robbed Berson Pharmacy at 148 Woodland Street.
  1. Williams Graham set bail as follows:
  • Raines - $7,000
  • Holloway - $6,000
  • Hawkins - $6,000
  • Burgess - $6,000
  1. A fifth individual who was a juvenile and had been arrested in the assault on Robert Ward was referred to Juvenile Court by Graham.

The article gave Eddie Hawkins address as 102 Huntington Street.

The sources for this article, or at least for the robbery of Allan Rifkin, were Madison Bolden and Robert Beltrandi, detectives in the robbery squad.  There is no indication that they arrested any or all of the five youths alleged to have been involved in these robberies and assaults.

Edward Hawkins will be arrested for theft on March 29, 1976.

Robert Ward was a Yellow Cab driver:  “Police said Ward was called to 690 Albany Ave. to pick up a fare at a time when there was a bus strike.”

Williams Graham was the judge for Circuit Court 14.
