A representative of the Continental Sales Company applied for a permit to construct a recreation room in the basement at 847 Asylum Avenue.

The project included

  • leveling the concrete floor;
  • laying a vinyl tile floor;
  • repairing the plaster ceiling;
  • and installing a partition to separate the room from the remainder of the basement, which was open.

The recreation room was intended for the owners’ use only.

  1. The permit application listed Edward Savoy and Florence Savoy as the owners of 847 Asylum Avenue, even though the land records indicate that Barbara B. Levy and Diane B. Hoffman still owned the property. Likely the Savoys were living at 847 Asylum Avenue at this point in time.
  2. Oddly, the file on the electrical permit won’t be closed until May 4, 1965, and the file on the building permit won’t be closed until May 19, 1965.

  1. On April 10, 1962, the city will approve the application for the permit to construct a recreation room in the basement at 847 Asylum Avenue.
  2. On April 12, 1962, the city will issue the permit to construct a recreation room in the basement at 847 Asylum Avenue.
  3. On May 2, 1862, Edward Kowalski will apply for an electrical permit as part of this project. The permit will be approved and issued the same day.
  4. On May 4, 1862, a municipal inspector will declare that the electrical work is done.
  5. On June 8, 1962, a municipal inspector will declare that the work to construct a recreation room in the basement of 847 Asylum Avenue had been completed.
  6. Florence Savoy will become the owner of 847 Asylum Avenue on July 10, 1967.
