Connecticut Mutual broke ground on its new home office building on Asylum Hill today.

  1. This information comes from two articles published by the Courant on April 10 and April 11, 1925. These articles were apparently based on an announcement made by the company.  So far, I haven’t found an article reporting on the event.
  2. According to an article published on October 12, 1925, construction work had begun on April 6, 1925.
  3. In this case, I have opted for the today’s date, because the two April articles were published after April 6, and I have assumed for the purposes of this entry that the articles published April 10 and 11 would have been aware of whether work had begun prior to the planned groundbreaking.

“More avenues of approach to the new offices of the company are anticipated in the proposed extension of Broad street to Garden and Myrtle streets, at which point lies the southwest corner of the new site.  A plan also under consideration is the extension of Church street to the intersection of Myrtle, Spring and Edward streets a short distance from the southeast corner of the Connecticut Mutual property.”

There will be a ceremony to lay the cornerstone on October 14, 1925.

“The new home office, three stories in height and of Colonial design, will thus have a picturesque background, the quietness of which will contribute to the efficient conduct of business.  The building itself, far from marring the beauty of the neighborhood, will really do much toward its enhancement.”
