305 Farmington Avenue sold by Ellen Case's estate

Ward W. Jacobs, acting on behalf of the estate of Ellen M. Case, sold 305 Farmington Avenue to William F. O’Neil and Charles Svenson.

  1. The entire property, with the house, totaled 7 acres.
  2. Plans for the property included:
  • Extending Marshall Street south of Farmington Avenue 300 feet;
  • Opening a new street from the end of the Marshall Street extension to Laurel Street;
  • Re-location of the Case residence, which would be preserved and modernized;
  • Re-grading of the property; and
  • An effort to save as many trees as possible.

  1. According to the Courant, the sale price was not made public, but it was believed to have been “upwards of $100,000.”
  2. Also according to the Courant, it had been “announced that it will be cut into lots for building purposes” and that “no apartment houses will be built on the purchase and that it will be sold and used for individual residences.” The Courant did not report who had announced this.

“The development of the tract will make a great change on Farmington avenue, and the sale of the property is one of the most important real estate transactions in the city for a number of years.”

O’Neil and Svenson operated as O’Neil & Svenson.
