Grace H. White arranged to transfer title on the Holbrook Building to A. B. Gillett on January 1

Tomorrow Grace White would inform the tenants of the Holbrook Building that they had to vacate their premises by January 1.

  1. “An effort was made to learn the price at which the property was sold, but the reporter was informed that it was part of the purchase agreement that this should not be made public.”
  2. “Mr. Gillett has been wanting to purchase the Holbrook building for many years and he was in negotiation with Mr. Holbrook several times before that gentleman’s death.

  1. The Holbrook Building was on the southeast corner of Union Place and Allyn Street. Today it is a parking lot.  It had been built in 1871 as a shoe factory for Hunt, Holbrook & Barber.
  2. Grace H. White was Caleb M. Holbrook’s daughter and his sole heir.
  3. A. B. Gillett owned the building just south of the Holbrook Building on Union Place.
