Bids for the contract for stamped envelopes received by the US Post Office Department

The US Post Office Department received bids for the contract to produce stamped envelopes.

  1. The contract would start on October 1, 1882, and extend through September 30, 1886.
  2. The bids were based upon “actual issues for the year ending March 31, 1879,” and there was “a reduction on the bases of the issue for the past year of about 7 per cent.”

The article did not report on how many bids had been submitted or the other companies that might have submitted them.

The Plimpton Manufacturing Company and the Morgan Envelope Company had partnered to submit a bid for this contract in the amount of $456,197.55.

A telegram sent from Washington, DC, stated that the Plimpton Manufacturing Company and the Morgan Manufacturing Company had submitted the lowest bid.

According to the Courant, the Plimpton Manufacturing Company and the Morgan Manufacturing Company will be awarded the contract for stamped envelopes tomorrow.

The Plimpton Manufacturing Company and the Morgan Manufacturing Company were also jointly awarded the contract to produce official envelopes for use by postmasters during the next fiscal year.  Their bid for this contract was $92,705.10.
