Plimpton Manufacturing leases new space for their wholesale business

The Courant reported today that the Plimpton Manufacturing Company had leased the space formerly occupied by Hills & Smith for use as their wholesale outlet.

Hills & Smith’s former space was likely located at either 358 or 368 Asylum Street (or both), and its current space was located at 364 Asylum Street.  In any event, I vote for Plimpton Manufacturing as having leased 368 Asylum Street, as that was next door to their retail store at 366 Asylum Street.

There was a fire in the basement of the Batterson Building that affected the Plimpton store at 366 Asylum Street on November 16, 1881.

Hills & Smith were grocers.
