Day 2 of the Hartford County Horticultural Society exhibition.

According to the article, “George Affleck rather excels in roses, and has extensive contributions in bouquets and green house plants.  Mr. Affleck, with C. S. Mason of West Hartford, Lawrence Fagan, gardner [sic] to C. H. Brainard, and John Grou, undoubtedly lead in flowers and green house plants.”

  1. “There is always a crowd around the table where the flowers are exhibited. The ponderous bouquets and the large dishes of cut flowers are so inviting in their tasteful arrangement, that visitors are wont to linger in the neighborhood.”
  2. “What shall be said of the grapes! Three are over a hundred dishes of them, so with a peck or more of the tempting cluster.”

Unattributed.  “The Horticultural Exhibition,” Hartford Daily Courant, September 27, 1860, page 2.
