The Courant reported that ground had been broken for the new First Baptist Church at the corner of Talcott and Main Streets.
The church was being constructed by the First Baptist Society.
Sopme members of this church will become founding members of the Asylum Avenue Baptist Church in 1870.
“We have not seen the plan but understand that it is something entirely new, and one of great beauty – a gentleman at home in such matters remarked the other day, that if it was carried out it would be the handsomest church in the State.”
The site of the church is now a parking lot.
