Asylum Hill Congregational Church Re-Dedicated

Asylum Hill Congregational Church held an ecumenical service to rededicate the church on its centennial. 

  1. The service was led by Ben Mohr Herbster.
  2. Attending the service were representatives of
    • The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford
    • The Russian Orthodox Church
    • The Lutheran Church
    • The Episcopalian Church
    • The Methodist Church
    • The Unitarian Universalist Church

The church held an evening event as part of the centennial celebration on March 21, 1965.

The church would organize the Boar’s Head and Yule Log festival on December 23, 1967.

The centennial re-dedication service was part of a series celebrating the centennial.  The final event in the series would be a trip to the Holy Land running from April 23 through May 21.

Ben Herbster was the president of the United Church of Christ.  He was the first president of UCC, elected when UCC adopted its constitution in 1961.  Previously, he’d been pastor of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Norwood, OH.
