Henry Green Buys the City Missionary Society Building

The City Missionary Society held a special meeting at which it voted unanimously to accept an offer from Henry Green to purchase their building at 234 Pearl Street.

  1. Green owned Green & Bauer, currently operating at 38 Ann Street.
    • Green intends to transfer his business to the City Missionary Building:
    • Manufacturing in the basement
    • Offices on the first floor
    • 2nd and 3rd floors unchanged from the present situation
    • City Mission Hall available for as space for meetings
  2. City Missionary Building
    • Dedicated in 1891
    • Construction cost $3,700
    • J. Gillette had an office here since around 1896
  3. A. Hickox was building superintendent
  4. The Missionary Society planned to consolidate its operations at its building on Village Street, where it had been since 1904.

“An officer of the City Missionary Society said last evening after the meeting that the society had sacrificed some money, but that it was felt that it was only fair to the city to put the building back on the grand list.”

  1. H. J. Gillette was the City Missionary.
  2. This building is still standing.
  3. Green & Bauer was currently located at 38 Ann Street.
