The Courant reported that 27 masons, 12 stone cutters, and 32 laborers were presently at work on the new building that would be the Asylum Hill Congregational Church.

  1. The workers were currently constructing the walls.
  2. The stonework was under the supervision of Andrew Brabason.
  3. The reporter predicted that the church would be ready for occupation by the end of 1865.

The chapel was dedicated on March 12, 1865.

The cornerstone will be laid on May 2, 1865.

The same article reported on work at two other churches in Hartford:

  • Work on Saint Peter’s Catholic Church had been resumed last week.
  • Work on North Congregational Church’s new building had been suspended due to proposed changes in the architectural plans.

“When finished, [Asylum Hill Congregational Church] will be one of the handsomest church buildings in the state.”

  1. Excavation on the church site had begun the previous year.
  2. The church would be dedicated in June 1866.
  3. The spire wouldn’t be constructed until 1871.
